
Al-Taj News – The Department of Statistics issued its monthly report on the general Consumer Price Index for August 2026, showing that the inflation rate for the first eight months of the current year reached 2.20% compared with the same period in 2025, reflecting the continuation of inflation levels within moderate ranges during the current year. On a monthly basis, the inflation rate during August reached 2.66% compared with the corresponding month of 2025, while it recorded a decline of )0.25%( compared with July of the current year, indicating a decline in price pressures during this month.

Regarding the contribution of commodity and service groups to the inflation rate recorded during the first eight months of 2026, inflation was driven by the contribution of the rents item by about 0.71 percentage points, while transport contributed about 0.60 percentage points, oils and fats about 0.26 percentage points, and tobacco and cigarettes about 0.17 percentage points. Meanwhile, the inflation recorded in August 2026 compared with the same month of 2025 was driven by the contribution of a number of goods and services, most notably the transport group by about 1.12 percentage points, followed by the rents item with a contribution of 0.76 percentage points, and the oils and fats item by about 0.29 percentage points.
On the other hand, the decline in the prices of a number of items limited the increase in inflation during August. The most notable was the fruits and nuts item, which contributed to a decline in the inflation rate by about (0.17) percentage points, followed by vegetables and dried and canned pulses by about (0.14) percentage points, and dairy products and eggs by about (0.04) percentage points.
